Important informations

Entry documents

A passport or some other form of identification. Visitors may stay for up to three months. Vehicle papers required are the registration booklet, and an international motor vehicle insurance certificate (a green card).

Customs

There is no customs duty to pay on personal things. Other items, such as a radio telephone, sporting and professional equipment, can be freely brought into the country as long as they are properly declared at the frontier.

Money

The official currency of the Republic of Croatia is the kuna (divided into 100 lipa). Foreign currency can be changed in banks, official exchange offices and post offices at the prevailing rate of exchange. As well as cash, credit cards (American Express, Diners, Eurocard/Mastercard, Visa) and Eurocheques (which have to be changed into kuna in a bank) can be used to pay for all goods and services. Foreign citizens can, when leaving Croatia, get foreign currency back for their unused kuna upon presentation of an exchange receipt, but only in banks. There are limits on the amount of Croatian currency that can be imported and exported.

Registering your stay

Owners of accommodation in areas with tourist activities are required to register the stay of tourists with the local tourist community of the respective village or city. The tourist community is then required to issue a written residence permit for each registered guest.
Tourists pay a fee for each day of their stay. Children up to 12 years of age are not required to pay a fee to stay, and children between 12 and 18 years of age pay 50 % of the fee.

County health services

During their stay in Central Dalmatia county, tourists have a right to health care in the Public Health Centeres (Dom zdravlja), out-patient clinics, and hospitals. The prices are nominal and correspond to the prices for Croatian citizens. Visitors from the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic, Poland, Hungary, and Great Britain need only to bring their passports with them.
Tourists from other countries, for example, Austria, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Belgium, should be in possession of the proper form in addition to their passports. Slovenian guests can use their health cards.

For treatment in private establishments, visitors pay the same as locals. Aside from state run establishments, medical treatment is also carried out in the county in private, general and specialized out-patient clinics. Among these are the special clinic for urology and surgery SALUS (Tel: 021/358 883), PRIVATE HOSPITAL Kalajžić (Tel.: 021/389 237) and the dialysis center CENTAR ZA DIALIZU in Supetar, Brač island (Tel: 021/630 566). In Makarska the specialized hotel clinic Biokovo (Tel: 021/611 815) offers the following rehabilitation therapies: under water massage, inhalation, digital massage, electro-therapy, kinetic therapy (keep-fit room), mud, magnet and laser therapy.

Health care for pets

There is a veterinary office in Split (Tel: 021/338 450, 569 804) which offers treatment including laboratory and X-ray examinations. Working hours: 7:30 till 12:00 a.m. and 4:30 till 6:30 p.m.

Nautical tourism

The owner or driver of a boat over three meters in length and with a motor over 4 kw must, immediately after entering Croatian territorial waters, register their arrival and stay with the next appropriate port authority, in so far as they intend on travelling along the coastline and to the islands.
Water vehicles arriving by way of land can be registered with any port authority.
The boat driver is required to register all people on board. Further, the owner, or as the case may be, driver of the boat, must register all persons on the boat with the appropriate tourist office so that the compulsory residence fee can be levied.
