The Dalmatian dog received his name from Dalmatia and the Illyrian tribe Dalmata. In the Franciscan monastery in Zaostrogo there is a painting of the “Last supper” by an unknown author from the 18th century, in which along side Jesus and the Apostles is also a dog – a Dalmatian!

The renowned American wine variety Zinfandel and our Kaštel crljenac are actually the same variety which was recently discovered by American experts by analysis of their genetic profile. With this the mystery of the origin of Zinfandel, which has been planted on about twenty three percent of the area with grapevine in America, has been solved. This variety, as has been determined, made its way to this continent during the gold fever period and has survived up until today.

In close vicinity of the church in the City of Omiš is located the “House of the happy man” which got its name because of its owner who, in the 15th century, had inscribed above his door the words “Lord, thank you for allowing me to live in this world!”

The only stone masons school on the Adriatic is located in Pučišće on the Island of Brač and in it are processed the well known and valued Brač stone of which are made parts of the White House in Washington, the Parliament in Vienna, Regents palace in Trieste, parts of the Parliament in Budapest and many other imposing structures around the world.
In 1997 the respected American magazine Traveller proclaimed Hvar one of the ten most beautiful tourist islands in the world.

That which is the greatest worth and rarity of the tourist Mediterranean today is – preserved nature – is the greatest tourist ace of the Island of Vis, which the World organisation for environmental protection included among ten of the most preserved islands of the Mediterranean.
